Senator Burgin Appointed to Four Interim Committees

December 7, 2023

Raleigh, N.C. – Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) announced on December 6, 2023,
that he appointed Sen. Burgin (R-Harnett County) to four committees for the 2023-24
legislative interim.

Additionally, Sen. Burgin was tapped to serve as the co-chair of the Joint Legislative Oversight
Committee on Medicaid and NC Health Choice.

Sen. Burgin will serve on the following committees during the interim:
• Joint Legislative Commission on Energy Policy
• Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services
• Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Local Government

The lion’s share of legislative work happens during committee meetings at the General
Assembly. Interim committees allow legislators to take a more in-depth look at issues facing the
state. The work that is done during the interim impacts the legislation senators pursue during
the 2024 short session, which is set to begin in late April.

“I want to thank Sen. Burgin for being willing to bring his expertise to the
Medicaid and NC Health Choice Committee. I look forward to seeing the work Sen.
Burgin does during the interim on behalf of his constituents and all North
Carolinians,” Sen. Berger said.

Sen. Burgin said, “I would like to thank Sen. Phil Berger for appointing me to these
committees and for supporting our efforts in 2023. I am looking forward to being
a part of each committee as we work toward improving the opportunities of all
North Carolinians.”
